If you are waiting for a good winter swim, or, training for the English Channel, or other cold water challenges, then the “Cold Half” race is for you!  The expected water temperature is 17-18ºC (62.6 – 64.4ºF) with an expected air temperature that can range from 12.7-22ºC (55-72ºF).  This is not cold in the ice sense, for some this is NOT cold!  But for “us” in Hong Kong, it is.

To offer a challenge to swimmers with different body types and motivations, there will be 2 categories:
     1)  “Naturally Ocean”
     2)  “Wetsuited and Buoyant”

  • Date: 24th January, 2015 (Saturday)
  • Start: 10am
  • Location
Start at Stanley Main Beach and finish at Middle Island Beach
  • Format
Either a solo race or a 2-person relay. If performed as a solo swimmer, a support paddler or motorboat is required. If a motorboat is used, you must have an observer/helper on the boat to help feed you during the race. There is a chance that not enough paddlers will be available. If this is the case, then you will need to hire a speed boat (which we can arrange), at the price of a speed boat entry. If performed as a relay, the swimmers rotate every 30 minutes with motorized escort required.
  • Category
Naturally Ocean & Wetsuited and Buoyant
  • After party
A barbeque and post-race-warm-up dinner held at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club on Middle Island in front of Hong Kong’s only fireplace.
  • Cost
HK$2,800 with a support paddler. If you have your own paddler AND kayak, then the fee is HK$1,500. The fee is HK$5,300 with a support motor boat, regardless if solo or relay. This price includes a GPS Tracker for each swimmer/team, so that you can all be tracked on the same map during the race. This is an amazing way for your friends/family to watch the race from the comfort of their warm home, or from far overseas. It is also a great way for you to check your lines, speed, etc, after the race. It is also part of our safety requirements for this race. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED IF SENT BY REGISTERED MAIL. Please trust the local post office.

The 2015 race will be held on the same weekend as the Standard Chartered Marathon.  So, we have an amazing “Double” for you who are keen – the “Cold Standard”.  This is where you swim the Cold Half race solo (15km) on a Saturday, and the next day, run the Standard Chartered Marathon.  This is certainly NOT for everyone, but for those few who feel they need some extra adrenaline, and maybe a bit of pain, in their lives, then make sure you sign up for the Standard Chartered Marathon in time, and then get out and get training.
