Waiting for a good winter swim, or, training for the English Channel, or other cold water challenges, then the new “Cold Half” race is for you! The expected water temperature is 20-21ºC (68-69.8ºF) with an expected air temperature that can range from 12.7-22ºC (55-72ºF). This is not cold in the ice sense, for some this is NOT cold! But for “us” in Hong Kong, it is.
To offer a challenge to swimmers with different body types and motivations, there will be 2 categories:
1) “Naturally Ocean”
2) “Wetsuited and Buoyant”
- Date: 15th Feb 2014 (Saturday)
- Start: 11am
Start at Stanley Main Beach and finish at Middle Island Beach
Either a solo race or a 2-person relay. If performed as a solo swimmer, a support paddler is required. If performed as a relay, the swimmers rotate every 30 minutes with motorized escort required.
Naturally Ocean & Wetsuited and Buoyant
- After party
A barbeque and warm-up dinner held at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club in front of Hong Kong’s only fireplace.
$2,000 with a support paddler
$4,500 with a support motor boat (mandatory for relays, no extra cost for partner swimmer)
The 2014 race will be held on the same weekend as the Standard Chartered Marathon. So, we have a new amazing “Double” for you who are keen – the “Cold Standard”. This is where you swim the Cold Half race solo (15km) on a Saturday, and the next day, run the Standard Chartered Marathon. This is certainly NOT for everyone, but for those few who feel they need some extra adrenaline, and maybe a bit of pain, in their lives, then make sure you sign up for the Standard Chartered Marathon in time, and then get out and get training.
Registration for The Cold Half is on a first come basis. Deadline is 7th Feb 2014 (Closed). There will be NO sigh-up on the day.
For The Cold Standard, if you are interested, please let us know by 15th Sep 2013.
